How to use US Macbook adapter in France?

I purchased an adapter and a converter from Brookstone before leaving the States. However, when I tried the adapter with my Macbook charger, I got a spark and unplugged it (!). Is this normal? Will I possibly damage my Macbook if I connect it? I appreciate any advice.

  1. No, the spark is sure not normal
    and i presume the spark occurred at the wall plug / socket

    i suspect that there is loose contact between wall plug & wall socket or the wall plug adapter in between

    take the macbook adapter to some local computer or electrical store and get the right wall plug adapter. should cost you about 1 euro
