How to back up a broken MacBook in FireWire mode?
|
|
I have a black MacBook and my logic board apparently broke. Before I send it to get repaired I'd like to back it up first, and a source told me it's fairly easy to do it myself. I bought the external hard drive and I just need to know how to get my computer in firewire mode (since I am not able to turn it on, but I am sure there is a way to put it on firewire mode because a guy did it before. I am not able to contact the guy who did it though) . And I'd like to do after I get my Mac into FireWire mode.
Additional info: I have the latest version of the Mac system, and the external hard drive I will use is the "My Book 500 GB" .
Any help ??? =) Thanks !

If the logic board is broken it may not be possible to back up the drive.
The only way to get the drive into target disk mode (firewire drive) is to hold down the T key while you power on the computer and assuming that it works, probably will not. the firewire symbol will appear on the LCD screen. Once the firewire symbol is on the screen you can connect the firewire port to another computers firewire port and get the information that you want off of the internal hard drive. You cannot back it up to another hard drive in target disk mode, with out using another computer to access the disk drive in the Macbook.
Years ago I had to send in my iBook SE to apple to get its logic board replaced and the hard drive came back with all the data that was on it before it would not boot still on it.
