Recent MacBook spare part searches: macbook screen repair replacement beijing, what parts in a broken macbook are salvagable

  1. There very well MAY indeed be. Of course, it all depends on how it was broken.

If you only broke the screen, your Macbook does have an External monitor port on it… so just by plugging a monitor into that macbook, it will function just fine.

If it won’t power on… who knows what the problem may be… and the motherboard might BE the problem.. thus making it useless for anything else until you replace it. The RAM is not interchangeable between desktop and laptop. The optical drive is not interchangeable. The hard drive can be put into an external enclosure, so you can use that on as many other systems as you want to.

But you can’t just connect it with a wire to the motherboard of your other computer, and increase the power of your desktop.

  2. What constitutes "broken"? One guy sent in a question about his "broken" MacBook, because it was showing a kernel panic — could be broken, could be bad RAM, could be faulty software. If you are talking about real physical damage, such as from dropping it down the stairs, well, yeah, it be broken. If you ask about using the logicboard in a PC, that seems to indicate the screen is broken… right?

If you remove the motherboard from a PC box and install an Apple logicboard in its place, you now have a Mac with an ugly exterior. There is no correlation between the way things work in a Mac and the way they work in a PC. For example, try getting a BIOS setup screen on a Mac. It doesn’t exist. Try getting the Startup Manager screen on a PC. No-go. Try booting a PC into target disk mode. Not an option, even if the PC has Firewire. Apple has enabled Windows use on Macs because they know how and Microsoft doesn’t object. It’s quite another matter to shoe-horn OS X onto a PC. The general architecture of a Mac is just different, no matter what processor is in the middle of it.

If the screen is damaged on the MacBook, fix it. If you can’t afford it, sell it to someone who can afford it, because a working MacBook is worth more than the salvageable parts. If you are planning a trip to Beijing or Shanghai in the next year, bring the broken MacBook. You can find someone to replace the screen for about U.S. $100, if you know where (BaoShan Road in Shanghai).

The RAM is compatible with most modern PC notebooks; check their spec page online to be sure. As the other answer says, the size form is different for notebooks and desktops, so you can’t use the MacBook RAM in any desktop box, whether Mac or PC. Other answer is correct about the hard drive, but be sure the case is for serial-ATA connector.
