How to connect MacBook Pro to my HDTV?

i have one of the new macbook pros. i also have a fairly new phillips hdtv. i hooked a blue computer cord up to the laptop adapter and hooked it into the tv in the slot. can anyone tell me how to make it show up on the tv. it says on the PC screen that i need to put the computer display on 1920x1080 but when i go to display the highest one is 1440x900. is there any way to fix this?

  1. Blue computer cord? Did you connect the DVI out on the MBP to the DVI in on the TV? Did you choose that as the input in the TVs menu? After that, try pressing the F7 key to change modes between screen spanning and screen mirroring.
