How do I repair this volume on my macbook?

I just ran the system check thingy that's recommended when you start up Onyx, and I got this message:

"The volume needs to be repaired.

To repair your startup-disk, start up from your Mac OS X Install disc (CD or DVD), then choose Utilities > Disk Utility..."

I put the CD in, now what exactly do I do? I don't see anything that says "utilities" unless I first click on "Xcode Tools". But then all that's in that folder is "uninstall-devtools.pl"

what do I do?!

  1. You have to start up from the CD or DVD. You restart the computer and hold down the “c” key. The Mac will start up, then go to your utilities folder and run “reapir disk” on the disk utility. Run it twice. Also run repair permissions. That should fix it. If not, use the Micromat CD that came with the Mac.

  2. You need to have the CD in the drive when you reboot the computer. Hold down the C key when the computer is starting up (about 10 seconds or so? Maybe longer) and it will boot off the CD. Wait for the CD to load, and at the Top bar, you have an option to access Utilities -> Disk Utility. Good luck!
