Macbook Pro problem – is it the logic board?
|
|
I have a 2 year old Macbook pro that has been working great up until a week ago when it wouldn't turn on. When I press the power button it plays that catchy lil' note that makes me smile
but the screen won't come on. I can here a fan kicking on for a bit. I reset the SMC and the PRAM to no avail. My friend says it is the logic board, I looked at it and it looks fine but I am a newb and do not really know what I am looking for. I read online about shimming the vreg chip on ibooks logic boards, could this be a solution for my problem? Thanks in advance

This does not sound like a logic board issue.
Get out the RESTORE DVD that came with the computer and slip it in the optical drive slot.
First, make sure the power cord is connected to your Mac.
If the computer is ON hold the power button until it turns OFF.
Push the power button once to turn the Mac ON.
Immediately hold down the OPTION key. This should bring up a blue screen with a choice of start up disks. Click on the DVD button then the right arrow to continue start up.
If the installer opens, click through the windows until you see UTILITIES in the menu bar. Open Disk Utilities. Click on your Hard Drive. Select FIRST AID.
Click button to REPAIR on the bottom.
When complete, QUIT Disk Utility.
Quit the installer to restart your computer.
