MacBook not working – how to fix?

i have a folder with a question mark on it sitting on a gray screen.and thats all that happens no matter how often i turn it on or off. what is it and what should i do?

  1. Restart and hold down command (the key next to the spacebar), option, p, and r (all together). Follow the directions here: ‘http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379′

    If that doesn’t work, go to Mac forums or call customer service.

  2. It’s either a hard-drive crash or severe OS failure (but probably the former). Try reformatting it with the OS discs (because it would suck if the HD crashed). If not, you’ll probably have to have the HD replaced… or buy a PC instead.
