How to recover data from a damaged MacBook hard drive?

I have a 2008 MacBook that has a damaged hard drive. When I boot it up it takes a long time to load or it comes up with disc errors. The laptop has other physical damage so the keyboard does not respond so I cannot login to simply copy data to an external hard drive. I tried connecting a USB keyboard to the laptop but that does not get a response either.
Is it possible to remove the hard drive and put it in an enclosure and then connect to it as an external drive to another Mac? I am not concerned with the physical condition of this laptop as it is already badly damaged. I just want to get out pics, music, docs, etc. Any help or suggestions would be great.
It is running OS X 10.4

im not really sure on laptops bc i work mostly on desktops so i couldn’t tell you if you can take the harddrive out of one of them and put it in another one bc idk if their interchangeable or not but if it was a desk top you could just take it out and put it into another computer as a slave drive and you could then move them to you primary drive sorry i couldn’t help much wish i could do more
