Will sparking MagSafe charger damage my Macbook Pro?
|
|
I just purchased a Macbook Pro computer and when I was setting it up, I first put the connector into the power port, then I inserted the other end of the adapter into the outlet, which caused a spark before plugging it in all the way. Then I turned on my computer. But so far, everything seems to be working well. But I was just wondering if I caused any internal damage to the computer. Thanks for you help!

...how it works and
No, it’ll be fine.
It shouldn’t have done any damage. But always plug it into the outlet first. Also make sure you are using a surge protector. This will minimize the risk of damage if a power surge happens
I think damage would have been immediate so nothing to worry about but I definitely wouldn’t use that Socket again.
Are you sure your Mac is charging from that socket? if not I’d check the fuse on the plug.
It’s fine, that’s exactly why that big block is there in that cord.
That spark it totally normal. It has to do with the type of power supply used for computers.
The power supply has no on/off switch on it. Most electrical appliances a person runs get plugged in first and then the power switch is turned on. But in this case the power supply(that black plastic box between the wall outlet and your computer) gets energized as soon as you plug it into the wall, turning the high AC voltage coming out of the wall into a lower voltage DC that your computer can use. The power switch on your computer just connects your computer to the power that comes out of the black box.
Just try taking something like your vacuum cleaner and plug it in and out with the power on. You’ll get that big spark too.
