How to fix weird lines and splotches on dropped MacBook’s display?

HELP!! my closed macbook fell about 2 1/2 ft onto a hardwood floor. there weren’t any dents on the outside, but when i opened it the screen was all messed up (colored vertical lines and black splotches). i tried restarting it, but still the same messed up screen. if u know a way to fix this…pls reply!

Sounds like time for a new LCD.
Considering it fell, I’d say with 99.9999999% certainty (lol) that the screen itself has been broken. Once LCD panels have been broken and allow air to seep in, they’re complete goners.
I, too, hope your MacBook is still under warranty. If, for whatever reason, you need to keep using it for a while before getting it fixed, hook up an external display and as long as nothing else in the computer was seriously damaged, you should be able to use it.
Sadly, Apple Care (just like any other manufacturers warranty, extended or otherwise) won’t cover accidental damage so you’ll have to pay for the repair.
If there are ‘black splotches’ on the screen it sounds very much like the LCD has broken. This is pretty common when you drop a computer from that kind of height.
The way to double check this is to GENTLY press one of the ‘splotches’ (if the screen is broken this won’t cause any further damage and if it’s healthy you won’t be pressing hard enough to do damage). if the ‘splotch’ moves then you have a leak and the screen will need to be replaced.
If you can’t afford to get the screen replaced straight away then you can always still use the MacBook with an external display (like an HDTV) until you can get it done.
Sorry I don’t have better news for you!
And seriously people – stop saying that a warranty will cover accidental damage! it’s like knocking over your TV and expecting the manufacturer to fix it. Warranty is for faults in Manufacturing & Materials. not accidental damage.
