What’s wrong with my MacBook?

Hi All,

I have a relatively new MacBook with no issues so far. That is until just now. I started my computer today and after logging in I got a message saying the date was set to a time before Jan 1, 2008 and that this may cause problems. It also forgot my network info. I changed the date and time and reentered my network info but I'm worried that there's a bigger problem going on here. Why would this happen randomly?
I found a discussion about this on macforums. Apparently this isn't an uncommon issue. I didn't drain my battery completely and shut down properly. The fix was to reset my SMC settings. I'm still going to call applecare to ask about this.

  1. If you zapped your pram, the MacBook reverts to default settings. It also happens if your pram battery goes dead. That usually doesn’t happen for 5 years. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it happens a couple more times.

  2. im not sure. ive never heard of this. if u mean that u’ve only had ur macbook less than a year as being relatively new, i suggest u take it to a genius bar at the apple store, ur still under warranty.
