Take the battery out and set it aside. Plug your MacBook into the outlet and boot up but hold down the Option+Command+P+R keys as soon as the grey screen apprears. You should hear three chimes quickly, and then it should boot up normally. Once it's booted, turn it back off, put the battery in, unplug it from the wall, and try to boot it.

Sometimes the MacBooks have a problem in the NVRAM that stops the battery from reading. Resetting the NVRAM (by using the Opt+Com+P+R combo) will reset the battery memory settings and it should read your battery again.....unless the batt's toast.

Resetting the NVRAM won't change anything that will cause problems :)

Mac's Suck...buying a mac is like buying a Prada purse... your buying the name.. plus the people who write the software for PC's write everything for Mac now too..
you have to buy a new computer (don't get a Mac this time) or send it in then be way over charged and at that point its just not worth it, or just use it plugged in... If it were a PC you could buy a new battery and that problem wouldn't happen

I have 3 computers, one i work with (video editing), one for personal use and a desktop.. just casue I guess hah all of them are PC's and they work fine. this laptop I've have for over 5 years and works better than my brothers brand new Mac.

Batteries die. They do have a finite life span. Yours may have just kicked the bucket. "A few years" could theoretically be long enough to have worn it out. If you've charged and discharged it often enough over the years.

The only "fix" at this point is to buy a new one. Hit up online stores or go to an Apple store and buy a new one. It won't be cheap, but that would "fix" the problem.

If you're 100% sure its not the battery itself, then again, I'd head into a store with an Apple tech and have them check it. Maybe there is a logic board issue going on then. But you need a professional to check that.
